I made the Bacon Explosion for a Super Bowl party and was a huge hit. Folks got a 1 inch slice, and wanted more.

I’m going Axis hunting this weekend, and it’s been requested that I make it. How can I say no a bunch of guys with guns?

  9. Chris Says:

Very interesting information, especially regarding the adaptive thermogenesis. This seems to happen very rapidly for me. Does one of your programs manipulate macronutrients and exercise to account for this phenomenon?

    Thanks,
    Chris

  10. Jayson Says:

It isn’t so much a matter of the type of program, but still staying disciplined once you have lost the weight until your body can adjust to a new set point. My programs manipulate macronutrients to get the weight off or to budge those last few pounds, but it also requires staying disciplined for a period of time once the weight is gone.

  11. Patrick Says:

Great stuff Jayson. I consider you my favorite and best source of dietary advice. I’m very impressed by all of your information.

I wish you would touch a bit on the effects of alcohol sometime. I know the lady mentioned in the episode asked about the glass of wine, but you didn’t quite touch up on that subject.

Personally, I am surrounded by friends who go out a lot and drink a lot. I have limited my alcohol intake, but it’s still more than many other people. However, due to watching my diet and good excersice habits I’m able to counteract the few drinks I have each week. However, I definitely notice a difference during the times when I completely stay away from the alcohol. What do you think about this?

  12. Kathygirl Says:

Great TV show Jayson!!! Learned alot, especially the Adaptive Thermogenesis!!! I wondered why in my weight/measurement journal, over the years, the 140 lb thing was where I would always wind up eventually!!! and just today I was wondering about that, and wahlah!! Your show taught me something just about that!! Wonderful, thank you for all you do!!!

  13. Jayson Says:

    Your welcome!

I am glad I could help.

Hopefully I keep teaching you something every week. ;)

    Hey Jayson!
Great Episode! - You look great on TV!!! :)

    weight loss ideas…

Time to try something new & exciting!

  17. Kevin Says:

hey man, i’m not tryin to be rude…and maybe I am wrong…but your resting metabolic rate is dependent upon your mass and your body metabolic processes. If you eat less calories, your body does slow its metabolic rate because it is in starvation mode but it does not adjust to your new baseline. It still needs what it needs, it just slows down and stores food as fat easier…..are you a certified trainer or nutritionist?…great job for thinking outside the box with the site, I just wanna make sure the info is accurate.

  18. kathy Says:

Jayson, I especially loved the cupcake question… But here’s a little friendly, criticism if I may…I’d like to hear from you, and other fitness gurus less blame towards corporate marketing… And how they push the junk we Americans love to consume. We know it’s not good for us. But, we buy it, the compnaies that sell the products are only responding to the market place. Let’s please put the responsibility smack dab in the consumers laps. Jayson, you know that even you must “market” your products. Marketing is not the vilain. Lack of good education is. And our general laziness to take the time to shop for healthy foods and then come home and actually prepare the raw materials in to healthy meals. That’s where you come in Jayson. That’s where you shine. If all the big companies like Snack Wells or Nesleys or whatever start to see a drop in sales and realize their consumers want something different, believe me, they’ll give us what we want. Let’s think about it… I can’t believe restaurants who continue to serve crummy white bread for instance. It would take just a little effort for these establishments to find a source of good, healthy sprouted whole grain bread for instance. Or, even prepare their own good helathy bread. And they would do so if we the consumer would simply stop frquenting their establishment, and/or requesting better food, and refusing to eat the unhealthy food on the menu. We consumers have the power… Let’s not forget this.

  19. Rick Says:

    Good stuff Jayson

This is way better than reading a long blog post. You got a lot of info quick to your viewers.

  20. Val Fujii Says:

    Jayson,

Congrates on your first TV Show. I could only imagine the amount of work that goes into creating and having your own TV Show. The topics were interesting and informative. You did a great job.

    Question for you:

One of the challenges my clients have is dinner time. They seem to do well during the day, but come dinner time, they blow it with eating too much. Their portions are too big. Any tips on how to avoid or control this epidemic nutrition pit fall?

Thanks Jayson and I look forward to watching your next TV Episode.

    Take care.

    =Val

Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next episodes

  21. Carlie Says:

thanks for the post on Adaptive Thermogenesis. I would love to get more information on this.

I have been working out for about 3yrs and over this time have gained weight (aprox3-4kgs)not lost it, but i am not ‘fatter’ than i was before, or even a different size clothes. But now that i have gained this muscle, i have been trying to focus on cutting my fat percentage down. I feel fitter and stronger, and slimmer but my weight number doesnt change.

In the last 3-4months i have started being strict, changed up my routine constantly, lowered my calories and for all that effort i lost 1% body fat and gained .5kg of muscle.

I was starting to think that there is a point where your body wants to stay and would be utterly painful to get it past that. If what i am doing right now isn’t working,i dont know what will.

My goal is just to cut out any excess fat. I am 5′8 at 61kg with apparently 23.7% body fat. So i dont need drastic 20pound losses, just the few things to have something to show for my 5 days a week at the gym.

  22. Mike Alves Says:

    Hi Jayson,

Wow! You are totally ahead of the curve. You even beat Ryan Lee in getting a show out. Congratulations and thank you for sharing.

  23. Jayson Says:

On paper that looks to be true, but in research they are seeing different things. The international journal of obesity has a study on adaptive thermogenesis and there are other studies out there on it. It doesn’t seem to be as simple as calories in and calories out. You body can adapt and change the way it uses calories based on it’s needs. Here is an abstract talking about adaptive thermogenesis. http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v31/n2/abs/0803523a.html

Yes, I am a Registered Dietitian and a certified trainer as well.

    Jayson-

The show is fantastic! I love the topic approach and how the outline for the show is organized below the player, just in case someone sees something they want to know about. Excellent job, tons of hard-hitting, usabale info, and I am looking forward to more episodes! TREMENDOUS PROPS for trying to find new and better ways to share more of all you know, you definitely have what folks need- thanks for sharing.

  25. Terry Says:

Congrats! Excellent show. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

  26. Brad Kingsberg Says:

Great show Jayson! Very informative and range of topics that move quickly yet are easy to comprehend for all viewer levels. I have experienced the adaptive thermogenesis first hand. You are on point in my opinon. Through a varied intense cardio and strength training program and carbohydrate restriction over 10-12 weeks I drasically lowered and maintained a set point of 15 lbs and 5% body fat and have maintained 6-7% boday fat for the last four years in maitenence mode. Keep up the great work!

  28. Patrick Says:

Again, great information, and I came up with another question. I’m a bodybuilding type who has worked hard recently on building muscle which really helped me melt off the fat over the last couple of years. However, after each weight workout, I intake a 2:1 ratio of high glycemic index carbs to protein to aid the muscle building and recovery process. This ratio and method has been highly recommended by many trainers and research I’ve read. Now, I’m wondering how carbohydrate deprivation will affect this. Should I deprive my body of even the post-workout carbs, or should would it be alright if this is the only time I eat carbs? I just don’t want the carb starvation to affect the muscle building routine.

  29. Jayson Says:

You should continue to consume this post workout meal/shake as it is very beneficial to helping you build lean muscle.

    Jayson

  30. Dianne Says:

For really bad recipes, check out deep fried twinkies, deep fried candy bars (such as snickers) and pickle pops. I have just moved to the south and my first experience at the ball park was an experience in new food offerings. Deep fried twinkies and candy bars are just that. They are coated in a sweet batter and then deep fried. Pickle pops are frozen pickle juice. Just can not be healhty. Unfortunately no pics to share.

  33. Jayson Says:

If you can do them together is great, but many times all it takes is doing one at a time or just choosing one and seeing if it works for you.
